This explains what personal information Booklier collects, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and your rights. Booklier is the controller of this information.
Booklier is run by Shane Levins trading as Booklier, 35a Rosemount Estate, Dundrum, Dublin 14. Contact: info@booklier.com.
1. What we collect
If you book (customers): your name and email address, the details of your enquiry (such as the date, place and your child's age if you share it), your messages, your bookings and payments, and any reviews or reports you make. Stripe holds your card details; we never see your card number. When you pay a deposit, Stripe keeps your card on file for that booking, so that an unpaid balance can be charged to it after the event, as the terms for customers explain. We keep a reference to it, never the card number.
If you list your services (providers): your name, business and contact details, your page, your messages, bookings and earnings, your performance and reliability record, and the tax details we must collect by law. Stripe collects your identity and bank details to pay you.
Everyone: basic technical information such as your IP address and browser, which our hosting keeps for security. To stop our forms being misused, we also keep a scrambled code made from your internet connection's address. It cannot be turned back into the address, it changes every day, and we only use it to count how often one connection asks for the same thing.
2. Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To run bookings (enquiries, the chat, deposits, balances, cancellations, refunds, reviews): to perform our contract with you.
- To keep Booklier safe and fair, for example checking chats for contact details shared before booking, looking into reports, preventing fraud, and working out search order and commission rates: our legitimate interests in running a trustworthy marketplace.
- To keep records and report to tax authorities, including reporting providers' earnings to Revenue under the DAC7 rules: our legal obligations.
- We only send marketing emails if you've agreed to them, and you can stop them at any time.
- To see how people use our pages and improve them (see Cookies below): your consent.
3. Who sees it
- Customers and providers see each other's names and messages in the chat. Contact details are shared only once a deposit is paid.
- Reviews appear on the provider's page with the customer's first name and initial.
- These services handle information for us, under contracts that protect it:
| Service | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | sign-in and accounts | USA |
| Stripe | payments, payouts and identity checks for providers (Stripe is also responsible for its own checks) | Ireland and USA |
| Resend | sending emails | USA |
| Vercel | hosting the website | USA and EU |
| Neon | the database | EU and UK |
| GitHub | keeping locked back-up copies of the database, which only we can open | USA |
| Anthropic | the optional writing helper providers can use for their About section (only what the provider types in), reading the insurance certificate a provider uploads, and answering questions typed to the assistant on a provider's own booking form, where they have one (what is typed is sent to be answered, and is kept for a limited time so that provider can read it, which the chat says) | USA |
| Google Maps | working out how far a party is from a provider, for travel fees and drive times (only the address or Eircode of the party, never a name or contact details) | USA and EU |
| Microsoft Clarity | seeing how people use our public pages, only if you agree to cookies | USA and EU |
Where information goes outside the UK and EU, it's protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contract clauses. We share information with Revenue (and through it, other tax authorities) where the law requires, and with the Gardaí or other authorities where needed to protect someone. We never sell personal information.
4. How long we keep it
- Booking, payment and tax records: for as long as tax law requires, usually six years.
- A card saved with Stripe when you paid a deposit: until you ask us to remove it, or to delete your details.
- The scrambled code we use to stop our forms being misused: two days.
- Everything else: while your account is open and for as long as we need it for the reasons above. You can ask us to delete it sooner (see below).
5. Decisions made automatically
Search order is worked out automatically from each provider's reliability, reviews, reply speed, page and bookings, and providers' commission rates change automatically with their bookings. Providers are always warned before a rate goes up, and can ask a person to look at it.
6. Cookies
We use the cookies needed for Booklier to work, such as keeping you signed in and protecting against attacks. We don't use advertising cookies.
If you say yes when we ask, we also use Microsoft Clarity to see how people use our public pages: it records clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, and turns them into heatmaps and replays, with anything you type hidden. It isn't used on your messages, bookings, dashboard or sign-in pages. Clarity sets its own cookies. You can change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
7. Children
Booklier is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children, apart from details a parent chooses to share about a party, such as a child's age.
8. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or send it to you or someone else in a common format. We'll reply within a month. Some records we must keep by law, such as payment records, even if you ask us to delete your account.
To use any of these rights, contact info@booklier.com. If you're not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland (dataprotection.ie) or, in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
